Morehead Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
Morehead Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan
Morehead and Rowan County, KY
Banks Engineering is assisting Morehead Tourism with the development of a bicycle and pedestrian master plan to facilitate the development of recreational and commuter facilities throughout the city and county. The master plan includes consideration of multiple transportation modes – pedestrians, bicyclists, mountain bikers, off-road vehicles, and recreational equine riders. All of these users are important in bolstering increased tourism and economic development in the community. Project elements include the following:
- Inventory of existing trails in the county, including the Daniel Boone National Forest
- Identification of origins-destinations such as parks, neighborhoods, shopping centers, schools, and Cave Run Lake
- Field reconnaissance to determine feasible routes
- Development of an interactive website to receive and share information with the public
- Coordination with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the local Bicycle-Pedestrian Task Force, Morehead State University, and the Triplett Valley Rails to Trails Group
- Recommendations for proposed improvements with project phasing
- Cost estimates and funding assistance
Banks Engineering enlisted the Gateway Area Development District (GWADD) for GIS, mapping services, and funding application assistance to reduce the program cost.
